Water, water everywhere and not a drop to drink: Do you know drinking ocean water, which is a mixture of bunch of salts and other things like small plants etc., to quench thirst will actually result in making you even more thirsty.

Mixtures are an important part of our life.  Almost everything that we see around us is a mixture of two or more components mixed.  Soil, paper, air, food, and water are all different types of mixtures.  Air that we breathe or tap water that we drink are all types of homogeneous mixtures or solutions.  A student sitting in the back of the class and an instructor in front of the room, both breathe the air which has the same composition of gases, that’s what makes air a solution of gases.

In this chapter we will explore :

Different types of solutions, their properties, and how can we predict if given components will make a homogenous or heterogenous mixture.
